Dongcheng's top-hung skylight opens by rotating the sash upward from the bottom edge, creating a triangular ventilation opening that channels fresh air into the space below while the angled sash simultaneously deflects any incoming rain away from the aperture — making this the preferred skylight geometry for consistently rainy climates.

The sash is supported by specialist load-rated corrosion-resistant hinges that hold the panel securely at any opening angle, allowing the occupant to set ventilation levels precisely without concern for the sash shifting under wind pressure.
